What gives TO PEEL its force is the contrast between openness and disturbance. The painting feels fractured without losing cohesion, as if different layers are pressing against each other at once.
I wanted the work to hold both vulnerability and resistance, with a surface that suggests not only color, but the act of something being revealed through peeling, erosion, or interruption.
